Smile Search Engine of Choice - 06-11-2008, 06:05 AM

Whenever I need information, I either go to Yahoo or to Google. Specially with the Google toolbar neatly installed and accessible, it becomes quicker to search for anything. Search results are often satisfactory and if I don't find it in Google, I go to Yahoo, or vice versa. My friend introduced me to AskJeeves (it has been renamed, I think), which I rarely use. As for MSN, I don't really use it, unless I just logged out of my hotmail account and the homepage gets back to MSN.

Some years ago, i used to search through Altavista, but now I am on Google too. This combined with Wikipedia make my life easier.

I use Google Chrome as my browser, and I have my search engine, Google, hooked up to the toolbar. So whenever I need to search, I type directly into the toolbar. It probably would be a good idea for me to compare results to other search engines though every now and then, since I have no way to tell if I'm missing something important.

Search engine of choice? Heh, more like search engine of habit for me: Google. They seemed to have monopolized most of the free web programs that I use...

Do you guys ever try out the newer search engines that aren't as popular yet? There's this one in beta called searchme, and you see the results as images of the webpages. It's pretty cool, and sometimes you need a change from the normal scrolling through text. Plus it's beneficial to be able to be able to glimpse at some pages first too.

I've tried one called, Cuil. It's created by some people who used to work for Google. They claim that Cuil has indexed the most pages out of any search engine out there...but I think it still hasn't indexed a lot of the pages that Google has. It'd be interesting to keep tabs on this one and see if it gains in popularity.

Ha! They used to work for Google, maybe they were unsatisfied with Google search engine and they thought they could make a better one. It looks like that's what they're trying to do. I think I'll wait until they index all the pages that Google has before using Cuil regularly to compare it.
